Fall Trend 2011 – Color Blocking

Fall! Yes, I said it! We are still in the middle of summer and I am already talking about fall. I know fall comes way too early here in Winnipeg but at least when it does come we will be ready and looking good!

Color Blocking has been seen for a few seasons but now it is just seems to be on every runway. Some collections are loaded with vivid color and some with more subtle blended colors.

Color Block Dress

BCBG Maxazria runway collection did an amazing job with their collection of color blocking, what particularly caught my eye was this lovely asymmetrical halter chiffon dress. The shape of the dress is classic but made modern with the asymmetrical hem. The vivid color on the sash and halter straps makes a bold statement but the chiffon pleated fabric adds a soft touch of femininity.

Diane Von FurstenbergNot Color Wheelall color blocking has to be all in one piece. I have seen some wonderful collections one being Diane von Furstenberg’s which takes bright separates puts a few of them together and creates a bold look. If you are going to try this trend out and you are a little hesitant of what colors go together just refer to the faithful color wheel, works every time! Draw a straight line through the wheel from one side to another and you will find the complimentary color. See the example on the wheel. Take one color from each side. Don’t mix too many colors together as then you will just look like a crazy Rubik’s cube running around! Not the look you want to go for!

A more mutLouis Vuittoned look comes from the Louis Vuitton collection. I just love this color block tweed wool coat that is from the pre-fall 2011 collection. The style looks like it is from the 1920’s or 30’s, so soft and romantic. The rich colors and textures blend so well together.

Color blocking isn’t necessarily about going out and buying all new pieces that show off this trend. You can use a piece from your current wardrobe and add one or two new pieces to incorporate with it. Maybe you are a little color shy and don’t want to have too much color on, then just add a bright belt, a handbag or a piece of jewellery to add a little punch of color to your outfit. Make this style your own!

Now go out there and Color Block!
